Habitat Hardware evolved as a result of enquiries that SALA Homes has been taking since 2001 where customers have had difficulties sourcing sustainable building products for their own homes. The increased frequency of these requests have demanded that SALA Homes establish a stand-alone business that concentrates purely on the supply of cost-effective, sustainable building materials and hardware for existing home owners and renovators.
Habitat Hardware supplies sustainable building materials and hardware to trade and online retail customers throughout Australia.
Products
Our products are tried and tested before being stocked. This means that our product range may not be as wide as conventional hardware stores, but you can be certain that the products that we do sell are quality products that deliver environmental, social and financial benefits to our customers. View our Product Selection Statement to see what it is that we look for in our products.
If you know of a particular product that you feel will meet our requirement of producing environmental, social and financial benefits please let us know about the product so that we can try it out.
Where to see our products
Habitat Hardware does not have a shopfront. We have a single warehouse and display homes around the country where customers will be able to ‘touch and feel’ the products.
Some of our display homes are homes built specifically for display purposes but most are homes that people live in, so we do not publish the addresses of the homes.
The advantage of seeing building products in a building, rather than on a shelf or in a brochure, are numerous, but one of the biggest advantages is that you are able to ask real homeowners what they think of the product and, more importantly, what they think of Habitat Hardware.
Pricing
Habitat Hardware aims to keep the price of our products to a bare minimum by keeping our operating costs low and offering discounts to our customers for helping us achieve this goal.
A discount is available to all customers who purchase their products online, however you are also able to contact us by phone or visit us at the warehouse to order products at the normal retail price.
Regular, or large volume customers (including tradespeople, owner builders, and home handy’people’) are able to obtain greater discounts. Please contact us for information on our Trade Customer requirements.
We do not offer trade accounts to anyone. All purchases through Habitat Hardware require payment in advance, either by cash, direct deposit or by credit card. This strict policy allows us to significantly reduce our administrative costs which allows us to offer more cost-effective products to our customers.
Unlike other hardware stores Habitat Hardware does not produce glossy printed brochures and we rarely advertise. Once again, this helps us to keep our overheads low, which translates into more cost effective products for our customers. Just as importantly, not printing brochures means that we are not wasting valuable resources producing brochures and other advertising material that is likely to end up in the recycling bin or worse yet, the rubbish bin.
Keeping in Contact and Up to Date
Habitat Hardware produces a monthly e-newsletter which provides customers with details of new sustainable products as they become available. It will also keep customers up to date with enhancements to the web site as it evolves. Anyone can register for the newsletter.
Partnerships and Investors
Habitat Hardware aims to partner with builders, developers, consultants and other retailers to increase its penetration into the highly polarised Australian hardware market. Expressions of interests are being sought from businesses that would like to work with us in taking a different approach to hardware in Australia and have a positive effect on the way that Australians build and renovate their homes.
Habitat Hardware has received offers to invest in the business. While it is part of the Habitat Hardware business plan to invite like minded investors to invest in the company at some point in the future it is far too early to consider this. In the meantime, we are happy to receive expressions of interests from those that may be interested in investing in Habitat Hardware in the future.
