There are a number of discounts and rebates available to homeowners and renters to encourage the uptake of more energy and water efficient building products, appliances and fittings. Below are some of the discounts and rebates that are we have found.

The summaries below have been gleaned from the information provided by the administrators of the rebate or discount schemes. Nationwide
Good Neighbour Rebate - Habitat Hardware administers a rebate scheme where Habitat Hardware customers are able to receive a rebate of up to $900 on photovoltaic system. By simply encouraging your neighbours to install a solar power system at the same time as you, you will receive a rebate of $300 and you neighbour will receive a $300 rebate on their system as well! PVRP Rebate - receive a federal government rebate of up to $8000 once your PV system has been approved and installed. For more information on this rebate visit the Australian Greenhouse Office website.
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) - RECs can be generated by your photovoltaic systems and sold on the REC market. Habitat Hardware will sell these for you and pass on the proceeds to you.
Go Green Home Loan - MECU Credit Union offers discounted loans to Habitat Hardware customers who fit their home with specific energy, water and resource saving devices. If you see the MECU logo next to a product listed on the Habitat Hardware web site it is eligible for the MECU Go Green Home Loan. Contact MECU to see what they can do for you.

Queensland
Queensland Water Rebates Scheme - The Queensland Government will offer rebates of up to $1500 for a variety of water saving devices including: rainwater tanks, washing machines, dual-flush toilet suites, shower heads, grey water diverter installation, grey water systems and swimming pool covers. Residential Gas Installation Rebate Scheme - When replacing selected electric appliances with gas appliances youmay be eligible for this Queensland Government rebate. It is available for owner occupiers and landlords.
Local Council Rebates - Some local councils also offer rebates for purchasing water-saving devices. Contact your local council to find out.

Brisbane City Council - Brisbane City Council offers rebates for rainwater tanks and pool covers. Visit their web site to check your eligibility.
Gold Coast - The Gold Coast City Council offer a rainwater tank rebate of up to $500 for the installation of rainwater tanks. Visit their web site to check your eligibility.

New South Wales
Sydney Water offers rebates of up to $1500 for installing rainwater tanks and $150 for new water efficient washing machines.
A WaterFix program is also available, where, for $22, a plumber will visit your home and install water saving devices, including a 3 star water efficient showerhead.
Sydney Water also offer a free DIY water saving kit, which includes aerators and flow regulators to reduce the amount of water coming out of your standard shower, hand basin and kitchen taps. Phone 1800 995 886 or visit their website.
Local Council Rebates
Port Macquarie - If you live in the Hastings you may be eligible for rebates for converting single flush toilets to dual flush and installing water efficient flow control devices, shower roses and clothes washing machines in your home.

Australian Capital Territory
The ACT Government offers rainwater tank rebates up to $1000 depending on size, but they must have internal plumbing connection to your home (eg to the toilet or washing machine).
They also offer a free GardenSmart service to make your garden more water efficient. Taking part in the service makes you eligible for rebates up to $50 on outdoor water saving products. Free grey water diversion hoses are available to all residents. Visit their website or call 13 22 81.

The Department of Sustainability and Environment offers rebates from $10 to $1000 for purchasing various water-saving devices and services, such as grey water systems water audits, dual-flush toilets and rainwater tanks. Visit their website or phone 136 186.

Tasmania
Some local Councils in Tasmania are offering rebates on a variety of water-saving products. For instance, Hobart City Council offers rebates on:
- Water audit for property: $30
- Replacement of single-flush toilet with dual-flush toilet: $50
- Installation of rainwater tank for toilet flushing/garden watering: $200-$300
- Water-efficient washing machine/dishwasher: $105
- Water-efficient showerhead/tapware: $12
- Replacement /maintenance of leaking fixtures: $30

The WA Government offers Waterwise rebates when you buy the following types of water-saving products:
- Swimming pool covers
- Domestic rainwater tanks
- Domestic garden bores
- Grey water re-use systems
- Waterwise garden assessments
- Tap flow regulators rated 3 star and higher
- Subsurface irrigation systems
- Rain sensor

Northern Territory
The Northern Territory Government offers residents in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek rebates up to $50 on water-saving products including 3 star shower heads, garden tap timers, hose trigger nozzles, flow controllers, 4 star dual flush toilets, 4 star washing machines and swimming pool covers.
Rebates up to $500 are also available to residents in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek for plumbing services of rainwater tanks and grey water diversion devices. The plumbing service must be provided by a Green Plumber to qualify for the rebate. Phone (08) 8951 9209 or visit their website
